Roger Brown (1941-1997)

Roger Brown grew up in Alabama before attending the Art Institute of Chicago. Earning both his BFA and MFA, Roger caught the attention of the art world in the late 1960's when he was labeled a member of the "Chicago School"of painting. (or Chicago Imagists)
Roger's work suggests many influences including advertising and comics of the 1940's, Italian Renaissance painter Giotto, and aspects of American Folk/Outsider Art. However, the greatest influence was the landscape of American culture. The Roger Brown version of Americana contains both praise and criticism of modern American culture, in the form of theatrical images and pointed satire.
Roger Brown's work is included in numerous important public and private collections including The National Museum of American Art and Corcoran Gallery in Washington,D.C., the Metropolitan, Whitney, and MOMA museums in New York, and Museum Modrner Kunst in Vienna.
